This whisky cocktail is just something to drink in late summer and early autumn, when peach wine is no longer a full day's work, and it's too early for cider. Apples are back in season, so decorating an apple with anything from the farmers' market will be a good way to welcome autumn. 
Many recipes for Washington Apple require the same amount of Canadian whiskey, sour apple gin and cranberry juice. This recipe will add to the taste of whisky (it's a whisky cocktail after all!). And turn back the gin to reduce the sweetness. We also use less cranberry juice, which can be overwhelming - especially if you're using good stuff. 
What type of whiskey should I use for Washington Apple? 
The Washington Apple Cocktail uses Canadian whiskey because it's light and smooth, making it ideal for mixing. Crown Royal and Canadian Club are popular brands, but any mid-priced Canadian whisky or blended whisky is fine. 
What is the best sour apple gin? 
The bright green DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker is popular and easy to find, but without The Taste of Jolly Rancher, you can also get a great apple flavor. Upgrade with the brand's apple liqueur, for example:

Is Washington apple a spirit or a cocktail? 
There are some changes in this drink. To make it a lens, simply halve the amount of each ingredient, shake it, and filter it into a small glass. You can also place Washington apples on a rock and pour the ingredients into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice cubes and stir well.

Ingredients 
  • 1 1/2 oz Canadian Whiskey 
  • 1 oz sour apple gin 
  • 1/2 oz cranberry juice 
  • Ice
  • 1 apple slice
Instructions
  • Chill a coupe or martini glass. 
  • Pour 1 1/2 oz. of Canadian whiskey, 1 oz. of sour apple gin and 1?2 oz. cranberry juice into the cocktail mixer. Fill 3/4 full with ice, cover and shake until completely cool, 8 to 12 seconds. Pour Hawthorne or the thin mesh filter into the glass. Garnish with apple slices. 
Notes 
Apple garnish: Once cut and exposed to oxygen, the apple's pulp quickly turns brown. To slow oxidation and make your apple decorations look fresh, soak them in lemon juice. 
Make ahead: If fun, mix a large quantity of whiskey, gin and juice and transfer it to a bottle. Place it on a rock, or pour it into an iced cocktail mixer and shake well.
